Villarreal CF and RCD Espanyol have reached an agreement for the transfer of midfielder Javi Fuego, who will play for the Yellow Submarine for the rest of this season and two more after that (until June 2020). The player from Asturias will train with his new teammates this morning under Javi Calleja and will be officially presented today, at 12:30pm, in the press room at the Villarreal CF Training Ground (Ciudad Deportiva). The event will be led by Villarreal CF CEO, Fernando Roig Negueroles, who will welcome the new player to Villarreal CF.
Javier Fuego Martínez (Pola de Siero, Asturias, 4th January 1984) is an experienced footballer who has played 372 matches as a professional in which he has scored 14 goals and provided 4 assists. Throughout his career he has represented several Spanish clubs: Sporting de Gijón, Levante UD, Recreativo de Huelva, Rayo Vallecano, Valencia CF and RCD Espanyol.
Javi Fuego was formed in the Sporting de Gijón youth academy. In the 2007/08 season he was transferred to Levante UD and one season later moved to Recreativo de Huelva. He stayed on Huelva soil until January 2010, when he signed for Rayo Vallecano and got promoted to the First Division. His great performances for the side from Madrid led to Valencia CF signing him in the 2013/14 campaign, for whom he made 117 appearances. In August 2016 he signed for RCD Espanyol, the team he has played for up until coming to Villarreal CF.
The midfielder will bring experience, strength and quality to the Submarine’s midfield. Welcome, Javi Fuego!
