The Submarines were superior throughout and Valencia had no response to the onslaught. Even before half time they were already losing 2-0. Two goals came from Giovani, assisted with impressive performances from Uche and Hernán Pérez who both got a goal each.
In the last encounter of the "Derby de la Comunitat" Villarreal have not beaten Valencia since the 2-0 victory back in 2010.
The first goal came from a low Dos Santos cross as Uche glided to the near post. He managed to slid the ball past the falling keeping from an extremely tight angle.
The second goal looked so simple. Valencia squandered an easy opportunity this lead to Villarreal quickly breaking down the left wing. Cani, the Zaragozan crossed in the ball to find the head of a unmarked Hernán Pérez to head home for the second of the afternoon.
After the second goal, Valencia looked stretched and disheartened. The pressure was clearly beginning to show and possession was clearly in the sights of the Submarines. However Valencia did have a chance in the 34 minute. Pabon came very close from close range but Asenjo protected the ball with safe hands.
In the last ten minutes of the first half it was clear who were the stronger side going into the second half. Valencia appeared desperate and aware that they would need everything to fight back after the break.
The second half appeared even better for Villarreal. Minutes into the first half Guaita saved a penalty from Giovani w had been given for a challenge on Uche . The Mexican was too disappointed, as minutes later he douns the net . After a corner was given, the Valencia goalkeeper deflected the ball away which Dos Santos latched onto unleashing an amazing diving heading header making it 3-0.
Villarreal played almost at ease but Valencia refused to be defeated so easily. In 62th minute, Ricardo Costa scored from a corner kick making it 3-1 and closing the gap for the away side. They continued to press but Asenjo appeared very comfortable in the goal.
Marcelino's men continued to use the counter effectively as they pressed to extend their lead. The next chance came from set piece. Giovani focused a kick from the right and Mario Gasper, headed a looping shot, but Guaita, with a major intervention, cleared at the last moment.
The last ten minutes Villarreal seemed content, but Giovani wasen't. Bruno found the Mexican with an impressive pass. He dribbled past two defenders and from 20 yrds out curled the ball completely wrong footing Guaita to make the final score 4-1.
