Llaneza to receive the Vila-real Gold Medal

25 / 01 / 2022

The Villarreal director will be honoured by the town council due to his work at the club

José Manuel Llaneza, Villarreal vice-president, will be recognised by the Vila-real Town Council with the Gold Medal of the town, which will be presented to him by mayor José Benlloch. The councillor previously gave Pau Torres the same award last December after he won an Olympic medal for Spain, when Endavant Esports cyclist Sebastián Mora also received the same honour.

The Vila-real Town Council gives the Gold Medal to people or entities who have helped improve and expand the vision of the town. Llaneza’s work at Villarreal CF, and consequently, the growth of the club, have meant that the town is recognised not only across Spain, but around the world.

An award for a lifetime’s work

With José Manuel Llaneza among the directors, Villarreal CF have become a fixture in the elite of Spanish football, with the current 2021/22 season being the club’s 22nd in the top flight. The Submarine have finished league runners-up on one occasion and have played 17 seasons in European competitions (15 without counting the Intertoto Cup). The vice-president is one of the men behind Villarreal’s long-term project, which was recognised on 26th May last year when the Yellows lifted the UEFA Europa League.
