Alberto Moreno: "Every game is a final"

19 / 01 / 2022

The Andalusian footballer highlighted the importance of the match against Mallorca

Alberto Moreno has appeared in front of the media to talk about current goings-on regarding the Submarine. The Yellows lost the last league game against Elche, after a good unbeaten run before then. Now, the team is ready to face RCD Mallorca at the Estadio de la Cerámica (Saturday, 4:15pm CET). Here are the standout comments from the No.18:

Defeat in Elche

“We’re annoyed because we had a great chance to get closer to those at the top. It was a blow because we were on a good run, with four wins in a row then a draw against Atlético de Madrid, even if that point left a bitter taste in our mouth. Now we need to pick ourselves up and think about the game against Mallorca to try and get the three points.”

European options

“We need to continue to work hard and improving in order to correct the mistakes we’re making. The result against Elche was a blow because we’ve now got chances to be in Europe, which is what the club wants, and I think that at the end of the season it’s something we will achieve, because we have a great squad, despite the absentees. The team is ready to be at the top.”

Difficulties away from home

“We’re finding it hard to win away from home. We did it in San Sebastián against a tough team. We need to be more demanding and even more focused away from home. There are a lot of teams who are fighting for their lives, like Elche the other day. We need to treat every game like it was a final.”

Every match, a final

“It’s a key game. It’s a final. From here to the end of the season, every match is a final if we want to be at the top. Mallorca are a tough team to face, we saw that at their stadium, where we were unable to win. We’re working on that game now, trying to find their weaknesses. We’re playing at La Cerámica in front of our fans. The coach told us at the start of the season that our stadium needed to be a fortress and that the opposition would need to put in the performance of their lives to get a win here. We need to be ourselves because we have top-level players.”

Staying calm and focused

“The opposition will always try and use their arms. They know we’re a team who have a lot of possession and they sit back to try and get something on the counter. We need to keep our heads, keep calm and try and wear the other team out, being patient for the goal to come while staying focused.”

A large squad

“We’re lucky that we have a large squad where academy kids are committed to the team. They train with us during the week. All of the players, those who play more and those who play less, always give 100%. That’s important for a large squad. With what we’ve got, we’re going to give our all on Saturday, with a winning mentality to get the three points.”
