Villarreal achieved another victory at El Madrigal (3-0) against S.D. Ponferradina. Despite their enormous strength and intensity, Claudio Barragan's men could barely stand the stunning counter punch and the collective power of the Submarine. French forward Jérémy Perbet became the star of the game by scoring two of the three goals, with an impressive mid-distance left footer on the second, in his debut as Villarreal player. In the end, a valuable victory for Marcelino's men that are placed back in the play-off positions for the promotion to the First Division.
The game started very even: Villarreal trying to dominate the ball possession and the position on the field and Ponferradina responding with great intensity, constantly pressing and being far from intimidated. Around the 15th minute, Cani shot over the crossbar, missing a great scoring chance.
The minutes passed and the Yellows gained meters on the field but didn't enjoy any clear opportunities. Within the half hour, Cani stole a ball on midfield and rushed to win the baseline. After a long gallop, and within the area, he looked for a partner and centered the ball that was rejected by the defenders. Jonathan Pereira took advantage of this rebound, scoring a header after one of the rejections.
Ponferradina tried to react, especially exploiting the speed of their wingmen, but Villarreal had bitten first and was not willing to drop their prey. The second goal was born in Cani's boots too, when the Aragón native picked up a ball in defense and gave it to Marcos Senna in the backline. Senna, served the ball to the side after seeing Mario on the clear and Mario centered the ball quickly to Perbet in the box. The Frenchman scored with a beautiful header. The striker, who was having his first appearance for the Submarine, was rewarded in the best possible way.
In the second half, the Submarine kept up with a quick and cheerful game. Perbet reappeared around the 57th minute receiving the ball in the edge of the box and without thinking it twice, took an amazing effect shot that went directly to the net. An outstanding début for the Frenchman.
