Keeping heads high and focusing on the next game. Villarreal CF head coach Unai Emery underlined that he believed his team deserved to win against Osasuna, despite losing 1-2 at La Cerámica: “We deserved to win and I think we put in a good performance. Their goalkeeper made four extraordinary saves. You need to recognise the good performance. We need to pick ourselves up quickly because we have another extremely important match on Thursday. We can’t feel sorry for ourselves. We need to recognise the good performance by the whole team, that didn’t get the reward it deserved.”
For Emery, the piece of place where Paco Alcácer’s goal was ruled out and the team was denied a penalty affected his players: “The team scored a goal, but the decision to not award it is out of our control. It came from a penalty which also wasn’t awarded, so we end up worse off from that decision.”
Regarding the game, Emery analysed that Osasuna were more clinical in front of goal: “It was a close first half. We weren’t clear with our ideas, but we were in the right positions and doing a good job. In the second half, we tried to have more of the ball to be closer to the goal. Osasuna were clinical in front of goal.”
