Fernando Cavenaghi, Villarreal CF's new player, is now wearing yellow and looks forward to his upcoming sporting challenge. "It's an honor to be here and play for Villarreal. Despite the relegation it is still one of the best clubs in Spain, with an outstanding structure and management. Back in Argentina we follow this club very closely, it has a lot of attention. Many Argentinians have played here and left good memories. Once I got the chance to come I didn't hesitate", said the 28 year old striker who is deeply involved in the Submarine's project.
"It's true that the club is now playing on the Second Division, but with its privileged structure and facilities it will only be merely circumstantial. I want to contribute with my game to bring the team back where it belongs: The Primera" he added.
The striker has a broad international experience –he played in five different leagues-, and has just scored 19 goals during last season, helping CA River Plate to promote to the top competition. "It's a similar situation to what I can find here, for River is not a club for the Second Division neither Villarreal deserves to be one now. It's hard to play in this competition and can be long and complicated. Last season I was lucky to promote with River and I wish I can do the same thing with Villarreal this season", said Fernando who recognized his feelings now that he's back in the Spanish league after his fleeting passage in RCD Mallorca (2011). "I had physical problems back then and I couldn't perform. I want to proof I can play at a good level in Spain. I wish so, for the sake of myself and the club's".
On his side, President Roig was very happy for Cavenaghi's arrival: "He's an all-around player, with great scoring skills that allow him an average of 0.5 goals per match. I'm certain he will be very happy here and his performance will be very good".
