The Catalan striker has equalled the returns of the top scorers in Yellows history before the end of the first round of fixtures

Gerard Moreno is in the best form of his footballing career. Aged 28, the player, formed at the Yellows Academy, is an attacking reference for Villarreal CF and is a regular in the Spain squads.

His magnificent individual performances with Unai Emery’s side have seen him score a number of goals, with ten in the first 18 matchdays so far this LaLiga season.

With one game to go until the first half of the season is offer, Gerard has a goalscoring rate similar to some of Villarreal’s great goalscorers in the top flight.

Forlán, Nihat, Rossi and Bakambu: the reference points

Halfway through the season, in the 2004/05 season, Diego Forlán had 11 goals. That season, the Uruguayan forward ended up winning the Golden Boot, after scoring 25 goals with the Yellow Submarine.

Another memory season for Villarreal CF was the 2007/08 campaign, where the Yellows finished runners-up. Nihat Kahveci reached the halfway point with ten goals to his name. The Turkish striker reached the 18-goal mark at the end of the LaLiga season.

The top goalscorer in Yellows history, Giuseppe Rossi, reached the midpoint of the 2010/11 season with nine goals. He ended the campaign with 18 goals in the domestic league.

Cédric Bakambu scored nine goals in the first 17 games of the 2017/18 league campaign. After that impressive start to the season, the Congolese striker headed to Chinese football in January.
