Sporting material, donated by Villarreal CF, alongside the Valencian Football Federation (Federación de Fútbol de la Comunitat Valenciana), Levante UD, Valencia CF, Elche CF, CD Castellón and Hércules CF, has arrived in Somalia, and was given to different teams from the African country during the festive period.
The Yellows took part in this initiative, promoted by Spaniards involved in the EUTM-Somalia project, through the Defence Delegation in Valencia, with the aim of encouraging sport as part of the complementary actions in stabilising the country, as well as coinciding with the reopening of the national stadium in Mogadishu.
In the photo, there are players from different Somalian teams; civil authorities from the area; the Forces Commander, General Fabiano Zizone (Head of EUTM-Somalia), and EUTM-Somalia Head of Support, Colonel José Luis Sales.
EUTM-S's main aim is to strengthen federal Somalian defence institutions, but as is also now common in this sort of international missions, it is also committed in a civilian co-operation project, which hopes to create spaces where young Somalis can develop through a world-known sport, such as football.
The mission in Somalia is an organisation, dependent on the European Union, which alongside other international organisations, helps with developing security and basic services in Somalia, to increase living conditions for residents.
