The Yellows Reserves draw against Atlético Levante after missing a penalty and hitting the woodwork twice

Luck wasn’t on Villarreal B’s side. The Yellows Reserves drew against Atlético Levante at the Mini Estadi (1-1) in a game in which they were the better side and had the better goalscoring opportunities. Miguel Álvarez’s side even missed a penalty and hit the woodwork twice. The visitors took the lead through Raúl Alcaina and Diego Collado equalised for the Yellows.

The first half somehow finished goalless. Villarreal B had up to five clear chances on goal and none of them ended up in the back of Levante’s net.

At the start of the second half the Yellows were awarded a penalty. Forés was brought down in the box and Kevin Soni stepped up to take the spot kick. However, Cárdenas guessed right and saved Soni's penalty. Moments later, Agüero struck the left post with a fine effort.

Atlético Levante took the lead on the hour mark. Raúl Alcaina got free and reached the ball first in the Yellows box, hitting a powerful shot across goal that Edu Adell made contact with but it still got past Filip Jorgensen (0-1, m. 59).

Villarreal B equalised in the 65th minute. Collado, who had just came on to the pitch, scored with a powerful shot over the Levante goalkeeper from close range (1-1).

The Yellows reserves went all out to get the win and they could have clinched it with a great strike by Kevin Soni late on that hit the crossbar. A shame!

Villarreal B’s next match will be against La Nucia (Sunday, 5:30pm CET).
