Giuseppe Rossi (Teaneck, 1st February 1987) is one of the most legendary players in Villarreal CF history. His 82 goals make him the club's top scorer. Beyond his innate capacity to find the back of the net, the Yellows No.22 had a fantastic left foot and an excellent ability to link up with his team-mates.
Aged 24, Rossi put in the best season of his entire career. In the 2010/11 season, the Italian, who had already shown his excellent qualities, broke through as an insatiable goalscorer. He scored 32 goals (18 in LaLiga, 11 in the Europa League and three in the Copa del Rey), becoming the only footballer in Villarreal history to have broken the 30-goal mark in a season.
It was in January 2011 when the Italian forward, after two goals against Valencia in the Copa del Rey (4-2), overtook Diego Forlán and became the top goalscorer in Villarreal CF history. That campaign saw him score five braces, against RCD Espanyol, Dinamo Zagreb, Club Brugge and Real Sociedad, as well as the two in the Valencian derby.
Rossi and Nilmar: a lethal double act
That season saw Rossi form a partnership in attack with Brazilian Nilmar. The No.22 and the No.7 formed the most prolific partnership in the Yellows' history, with 50 goals between them. More than half the goals that Villarreal scored that 2010/11 campaign (98).
The goals from both strikers, alongside the talent of footballers like Bruno Soriano, Santi Cazorla, Marcos Senna and Joan Capdevila, led to Villarreal finishing fourth in the league, qualifying for the UEFA Champions League. That season also saw the Yellos reach the UEFA Europa League semi-finals, beating rivals such as Napoli, Bayer Leverkusen and FC Twente.
