Villarreal B continue their spectacular run of results. The Yellow reserves beat Andorra 2-1, a direct rival in the battle for ‘play-off’ position, thanks to goals from Rafa Mujica and Sergio Lozano, which meant Forgas' strike didn't count for anything. With this result, Miguel Álvarez’s team has achieved six wins and a draw since the start of 2020.
The game was very evenly matched. Of course, Villarreal B got off to the better start. The Mini Submarine pressed Andorra high, causing the away side to make a lot of mistakes as they tried to pass the ball.
The first goal came in the 9th minute. Lozano picked up a ball in the centre of the pitch and played a great pass through to Mujica. The striker didn't miss despite the efforts of the oncoming Ratti to stop him (1-0).
Andorra equalised before half-time. Forgas was facing the left flank and made a left-footed effort which entered the goal by the post (1-1, m. 39).
The most controversial moment of play also came during the first half. The referee Domínguez Cervantes denied a perfectly good goal by Álex Baena for a non-existent offside.
In the second half, Villarreal B were rewarded for their hard work with a second goal to make it 2-1. Sergio Lozano let off a tremendous left-footed shot from the edge of the area which flew into Ratti's net like a rocket (m. 65).
To sum up, a very important victory for the Yellow reserves, who continue their spectacular form. In fact, with the rest of the matches on Sunday afternoon still to play, Villarreal B are the provisional leader.
Their next match will be away against CD Ebro (Sunday, 12pm).
