Two golden Yellows. Nacho Díaz and Carlos Beitia from the Villarreal CF Academy were crowned champions of the Mediterranean Games with Spain U18 after their 3-2 victory against Italy in the final. Spain were the first to concede in the match but reacted remarkably and managed to turn the result around to win gold.
Vila-real born goalkeeper, Marc Vidal, was also called up for the competition in Tarragona, but unfortunately had to miss out due to a shoulder injury that he picked up while training for the tournament at the 'Ciudad del Fútbol de las Rozas' facility in Madrid. A setback that will not prevent him from being part of this successful and brilliant generation of young footballers.
Success with the national team
After this huge achievement, the Yellows expand their impressive record with the Spanish youth national teams. Both players were proclaimed U17 European Champions last season after winning the penalty shootout against England (2-2) and, along with Marc Vidal, were runners-up in the U17 World Cup, after losing to England this time (4-2) in the final in India.
