Villarreal got their first win of the season and they did so in style. Fran Escribá’s side made a comeback against Real Betis in what was a spectacular performance by the home side. The goals from the locals were scored by Bacca, Castillejo and Enes Ünal. The celebaration was completed with the Yellows first win at the Estadio de la Cerámica as the town also bids farewell to the local festivities in Vila-real.
The Submarine had the first clear chance of the match. Rukavina put in a cross from the right wing and Bacca got up and fired his header towards the Betis goal, but his effort went straight at Adán. Just a few seconds later Betis opened the scoring. Joaquín set off down the right wing and put a great cross in to Sergio León, who headed past Barbosa (0-1, m. 10).
That goal aggravated the Yellows, who started to push on for the equaliser. Before the half an hour mark Castillejo hit Betis on the counterattack, played a great through ball to Bakambu and the Yellows number 17 shot to the near post but Adán saved again.
The Betis goalkeeper went from hero to zero moments later though. Adán attempted to clear the ball and Bacca read what he was going to do, tackled the away keeper and with a cool head, not to mention tremendous quality, the Colombian striker blasted the ball into the back of the net from close range (1-1, m. 31). The team and fans alike went wild inside the Estadio de la Cerámica. It was Bacca’s first goal for the Submarine.
The equaliser motivated the Yellows even more and they went in search of a second in earnest. Rodrigo came so close after he hit an absolute screamer of a shot from the edge of the box that smashed against the post. Villarreal deserved more.
They got the reward they deserved from their good play in the second half. But before that they were made to suffer, Barbosa keeping the Yellows in it with a great save in the 58th minute. Tello got away from the defence with his speed and was up one on one against the Yellows number 25, who came out on top, bloxking the ball with his leg. And, rightly so, was given an ovation by the fans.
Then, Yellows fans went from fright to euphoria. Two minutes later Villarreal took the lead (2-1). Bakambu started a counter attack, Fornals switched the play to Castillejo and the number 10 did the rest. The winger cut inside and let rip with a perfectly placed left footed strike to the far post. Impossible for Adán.
Fran Escribá made some substitutions and they worked perfectly. Enes Ünal came on and made an impression; scoring a brilliant goal after being on the pitch for just a few minutes. The Turkish striker scored his first goal for the Yellow Submarine with a bullet of a shot to the near post. (3-1, m. 76). It should also be mentioned that Reserve team player, Chuca, made his official debut for the first team.
