Villarreal CF Manager, Fran Escribá, was “satisfied" with his team’s performance against Athletic Club: "I’m very happy, we worked really hard. We played well, controlled the game and were clinical up top". What’s more, Escribá was grateful for the fans’ support who carried the Submarine: "This victory is for the fans. They put the pressure on from the first minute, especially when we went a man down. They helped us a lot".
Likewise, Escribá was disappointed about the sending off of Víctor Ruiz, which made the Submarine have to defend for the final minutes. "Going down to ten men meant we had to make an extra effort, but we hung on well and, in the end, we got the win", the Villarreal boss explained. He also took the chance to praise Roberto Soriano’s performance, one of the stars of the match: "He is a very important player for us, he’s got great quality and today he showed that". The Villarreal Manager did not forget to mention Andrés Fernández either, describing his performance as “spectacular".
Despite the important win picked up against the Basque side, Escribá was still cautious and prefers "not to look at the table" and from tomorrow onwards start focusing on "the next match against Alavés".
