Bruno Hortelano, an athlete from the 'Club Atletismo Playas de Castellón’, a club sponsored by Villarreal CF within the ‘Endavant Esports’ initiative, smashed the Spanish 100m record in the Meeting International de Madrid (10.06). Previously, the national record stood at 10.14, achieved by Ángel David Rodríguez in 2008.
In the Semi-finals, Bruno won his 100m heat stopping the clock at 10.08, already breaking Ángel David Rodríguez’s national record, in the grand Final however, Hortelano beat his time again with an incredible 10.06.
With this time, the Playas de Castellón athlete is ranked 3rd in European rankings; behind France’s Jimmy Vicaut and American born Turkish athlete Jak Ali Harvey, who beat him, very narrowly, in the European Clubs Cup in Mersin (Turkey) one month ago.
Hortelano has become the fastest Spaniard in history, now possessiing both the 100m and 200m (since 2013) records, and he can also participate in the 400m.
