In today’s press conference the Villareal CF manager, Marcelino García Toral, highlighted prior to the Celta de Vigo clash (Wednesday 2nd March, 8pm CET, Balaídos stadium, live on Canal+ Liga and Abono Fútbol) that despite the great difficult they will face against a top quality rival, the team is more than capable of getting a good result. “Celta are a very dynamic team, very intense as they mark man for man, meaning each of our players will always have someone to beat. For them, zone play doesn’t exist, so we have to do things differently. What’s more, they always leave three up front, which is why their transition to attack is quick and dangerous. Celta has many great forwards and the team plays the ball around well, but we’re ready. Usually our games against Celta are very even, hard-fought and aren’t decided until the last minute. Both teams will create chances, so it will be the most clinical team that wins”.
The manager also said that it will be a very physically demanding match so there will be changes. “It will be a really tough match, they’re a great team and very dangerous. It will be a very physically demanding match up, so we’ll be making a few changes due to the recently played match against Levante. It will take maximum concentration in defence and at the same time we’ll have to be very clinical in attack, which will be made all the more demanding as they’ll mark us man for man”.
To finish Marcelino stressed that there is no spirit of revenge about the match – as Celta are the only team to have beaten Villarreal in El Madrigal this season – but as always a strong desire to compete. “When a team beats you, of course you want to show them they can’t do it twice. They beat us at home but it was a very strange game, so we hope this time the game will go more in our favour”.
