Juan Carlos Garrido to take charge at Villarreal
Reserve coach to be at the helm until the end of the season
Villarreal B coach, Juan Carlos Garrido has been appointed coach at Villarreal until the end of the season following the rescinding of Ernesto Valverde’s contract.
The Valencian trainer will take immediate control of the first team squad, and take his first training session from 10.30 today at the Sports City. His replacement at Villarreal B will be announced within the next few days.
The Submarine’s new trainer, and club President, Fernando Roig will meet representatives of the media at the Sports City immediately after the session to officially launch the club’s new regime.
A hometown boy
The 40-year-old Garrido (29-3-1969) has led the meteoric rise of a Villarreal B side that has been the surprise package of the season. Sitting in seventh place in the table the reserves are just four points off an automatic promotion place. Nor has this been the first success with the reserves for the Valencian coach. In addition to taking the club into the third division he also managed to keep the club in the second division B following the dismissal of Juan Carlos Oliva.
Considered to be one of mainstays of the meteoric rise of the Yellow outfit, the Valencian coach, – prior to coaching the B side -, was, for nine years, director of Junior football at the club. He also coached Onda to the third division title.
Before he arrived at Villarreal, Garrido was coach at El Puig for six seasons where he fought for promotion and obtained runners-up spot in the Regional Preference League.
