GROGUET, Our mascot!
Villarreal C.F.’s mascot is Groguet and its design represents a submarine, the nickname of Villarreal C.F. in the Spanish league.
Groguet’s colours of yellow and blue are the traditional colours associated with Villarreal C.F.
The mascot, which was officially presented on the 26th October 2001, is a big body, with the structure of a submarine, but with a human shape and face. Groguet represents the passion and aims of the club to become a consolidated 1st Division team in the Spanish league.
Following the design of Groguet the club organised a school competition for all under-15’s of Castellón province to find a suitable name.
On the 13th of December 2001 the name Groguet was chosen among all the entrants received. 12-year-old Javier Fuster Almela, born in Villarreal, created the original name.
The jury was formed by the players of the team at the time Jesús Unanua and Unai Vergara, the 2nd Mayor, Ramón Tomás, members Manuel Gumbau and Trinidad Santamaría and the President of the Peñas (supporters group) Association at the time, Susana García.
Since 2001 Villarreal C.F .supporters enjoy the presence of Groguet before and during the half time of every home match. The official shop also offers many products concerning Groguet.
